Thank you to everyone who reached out this week to share feedback about the state’s response to COVID-19. We are hearing a range of perspectives, and both Rep. Houghton and I have been working through issues with the Administration and our federal partners.

Vermont is at a critical point when our collective actions will determine how widely COVID-19 spreads. State modeling projects that the pandemic will put huge pressures on our health care system. Patient needs will grow. Demand for health professionals will multiply. It’s incredibly important that those who can stay home do so, and that those who have to go out for essential tasks practice social distancing.

We learned on April 2nd that Essex Junction will play an important part in efforts to fortify our hospitals. The Vermont National Guard is establishing a hospital surge site at the Champlain Valley Exposition. This action is part of the state’s plan to bolster medical surge capacity ahead of increasing COVID-19 hospitalizations. As stated in the announcement, “these sites will be operated in close coordination with health care providers and will only be used if hospitals exceed their capacity.”

Each day seems to bring another major announcement about COVID-19. We want to make sure you have a chance to connect with us during this difficult time. Your Essex State Reps are holding a virtual town hall this Saturday (4/4) from 9-10:30am. All are welcome. You can participate by either video or phone. Details for joining the meeting follow:
